MIDLANDS BRANCH INDOOR CONTEST

Summary on Midlands Branch website

Another superb set of results to kick start the season

2nd & 3rd Grade 4 Trios (March Selection)

At the start of the day it looked as if it was going to be 'one of those days' regarding the pipe sound, but after a few minutes playing and a little bit of reed adjustment, the sound came back

Honors today in this event go to the 'B' band (Pete, John & Chris), taking second place from the 'A' band - nice solid sound and some good playing - well done guys

The 'A' band chanters needed a little bit of adjustment in the final tuning room just before going on but nevertheless produced a nice clean sound from the off (although we may have to rethink the use of harmony - clearly the judge today wasn't impressed with it!)

Congratulations to the Nottingham Police for taking the first place today ahead of our two trios

1st Grade 4 Mini Bands (March Selection)

A nice solid performance, just a little bit of shrillness of one of the High A's at the start but it settled down

No adverse comments about the use of harmony here, so maybe it's just a little too heavy when played in a trio?

1st Grade 4 Mini Bands (MSR)

Not a bad performance, just felt a liitle bit rushed in places (probably just wanted to get it over and done with!)

1st Grade 3 Mini Bands (Medley)

A much more relaxed and controlled performance with a solid pipe sound (although High A on one chanter not as good as it should be)

Towards the end there was a little bit of lack of stamina showing but not impacting on the performance too much - it had been a long day!

Well done everyone
